Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colors."
I have a vest made of patchwork. My aunt made it for me several years ago from material in her scrap bag. It is very colorful and pretty. But beyond the beauty of it, I realize that making it was a labor of love, so I understand how proud Joseph was of the coat his father made for him. Clothes were not easy to come by in those days, and this must have been a very beautiful garment.
In the same way, to put all those small scraps of cloth together into a pleasing and colorful pattern for my vest was a difficult and time-consuming job for my aunt. But she did it out of love. Today, it seems so much easier to run to the nearest store and buy a gift. But think of the difference it makes to receive a gift that says, I love you enough to give of myself as well as my income.
My prayer for today: Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You gave of Yourself completely that I might have the gift of salvation.
