Gray Hair

"Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;"
Colossians 3:9

Have you ever walked through the woods and come across a piece of dried snake skin?  They shed these skins each year to make way for new growth.  That is what Paul is telling the christians in his letter.  He refers to the "old man" as being our pre-christian lives.  He wants us to shed the skin or the ways of the unsaved life and give ourselves over to new life and new growth.  Maybe we have habits we need to break, or books or movies we need to get rid of.  But notice, God doesn't expect the snake to lose his skin and not receive a new one to replace it.  In the same way, He does not ask us to get rid of old habits without replacing them with newer and better ones.  He wants to fill our new life with happiness, joy, service, knowledge, and on and on the list goes.  All we have to do is get rid of the "old man" and open ourselves to the newness God has for us.

My prayer for today:  Father, guide me in all the new discoveries You have for me in my new life in Christ.
